Case Study: "Engaged Diversity" Fundraiser HD Video Production

Client: Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas

Objective:

Southwestern University required the services of an HD video production company to produce an HD DVD that would 1. act as a video annual report on the achievements of the "Engaged Diversity" program, and 2. submit an on-camera plea for continued funding for the program.

The DVD report was to be sent to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the sole funder of the program. The DVD production was to represent not only Southwestern University, but also the other participants in the "Engaged Diversity" program including Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, and Morehouse College, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Program Information:

The "Engaged Diversity" program was created to inspire broader ethnic diversity in the five participating institutions, many of whom are historically black colleges and universities. The goal of the program is to foster better cultural understanding and awareness through integrated learning and lifestyles.

Resolution:

Echo Earth Media of Austin, Texas sent an HD two-camera crew to the "Engaged Diversity" seminar held at the Radisson Hotel & Suites-Town Lake in Austin, Texas over a two-day period. Attendees of the seminar included faculty and students from the participating institutions in the "Engaged Diversity" program.

The two-camera crew shot key activities and speakers during the seminar, then also split into two interview crews to record interviews with selected faculty and students.

Story Arc:

The production plan was storyboarded to follow the story arc below:

• Open with a welcome message from the program director.
• Give history of the program and the participating institutions focusing on the breadth and success of the program.
• Show hands-on participation in the program at the seminar, intercut with comments from faculty and student participants giving their opinions on the program.
• Montage of students and faculty summarizing the program in one word.
• Close with an appeal from the program director for further funding.
